THE NORRIE WAITE & SLATER STORY
When was your business founded?
We have been established over 50 years and have grown substantially in those years with a succession of mergers with, Waite Turner Breislin in 1996, Slater Elliott in 1999, Peel and Co in 2004, Mundy Coutts-Wood in 2007, Peter Stubbs & Co in 2011 and Leviten Thompson in 2014.
What are your core products or services?
We are experts in Family Law & Divorce, Competitive Conveyancing Fees, Legal Aid, Criminal Defence, Wills & Probate, Personal Injury and Disputes.
Who is your target audience or sector?
We support businesses, individuals and families across South Yorkshire and beyond, offering legal services that cover everything from commercial property conveyancing, personal injury and family law to conveyancing, criminal defence, and wills & probate. Whether you’re buying a new home, dealing with a dispute, or seeking justice after an injury – we’re here to help.
What makes your business different in your field?
With over 50 years serving our communities, we pride ourselves on being approachable, professional, and committed to our clients. Our long-standing presence in areas like Killamarsh, Parkgate, and central Sheffield means we’re trusted, local, and never far away. We offer real advice from real people – no jargon, just clear support.
Has anything changed in your industry over the years?
Absolutely. Legal processes have become more digital, client expectations have shifted, and there’s more need than ever for accessible, flexible legal advice. We’ve adapted to meet those changes – offering remote appointments, embracing digital tools, and staying up to date with evolving regulations to better support our clients.
What new trends or innovations have you embraced recently?
We’ve made significant investments in streamlining our client journey – improving our online presence, digital communications, and internal systems to make the legal process simpler and less stressful. We’ve also expanded access to flexible appointments and improved how we handle enquiries across our three branches.
Recent highlights you’d like to share?
We’re proud to have recently been featured in The Sheffield Star for securing a successful outcome in a serious workplace injury claim. We’ve also supported key community initiatives like S6 Foodbank’s “12 Days of Christmas” campaign and Red Nose Day. Our Killamarsh office has had a fantastic new frontage – a fresh look for a team that’s been there for over 50 years!
We were also delighted to be involved in supporting the campaign promoting the new blue plaque for the Sheffield Home of Football, recognising the city’s heritage and its bid for UNESCO status — a cause close to our heart, especially as our head office on East Parade is proudly home to the plaque.
What are you most proud of as a business?
Our community roots. Many of our clients return to us time and again — and we’re proud of the relationships we’ve built across generations. Whether it’s seeing familiar faces or supporting someone through a difficult time, knowing we make a difference in people’s lives is what drives us.
