three examples of AI designs all looking the same

Why Human Creativity Still Wins

AI Design vs a Professional Designer in Sheffield: Why Human Creativity Still Wins.

AI can design your leaflet. It can create your poster, knock out a social media graphic and even have a go at your logo (don’t use it for your logo!)

And yes, some of it, occasionally looks kind of passable if you squint.

There’s just one rather big problem.

Everyone else is using the same AI tools too.

Scroll through social media or look at the growing wave of AI-generated adverts, posters and promotional graphics and you’ll start to notice it. The same unnatural imagery. The same oversized type. The same gradients. The same impossibly perfect people. The same text-heavy composition. Oh and way, way too many icons!

Individually, they can look OK at first glance.

Put them next to each other, and they start to become visual wallpaper.

And if the whole point of advertising is to get noticed, that’s a problem.

AI graphic design has a sameness problem

Generative AI is very clever at creating work based on basic existing patterns.

Ask it for a modern corporate advert, and it knows roughly what one should look like. Ask for a luxury brand, a funky restaurant poster or a professional business leaflet, and it can quickly produce something for you to use.

But passable isn’t necessarily memorable and targeted.

The more businesses use similar prompts, tools and templates, the more their marketing starts drifting towards the same visual middle ground.

Your AI-generated social media post might look OK in your eyes.

Unfortunately, so do the 30 posts surrounding it.

Good graphic design shouldn’t just look good. It should make your business look different and target your particular audience with the right amount of information and good typography.

Using AI for your marketing to save money, can be a huge false economy as you quickly lose work to businesses who realise the value of using professional designers with decades of experience to get the best results.
